Overview

ngicmagazine1stedition2026.com.ng presents itself as a "PDF Viewer" behind a domain name dressed up as a first-edition 2026 magazine release, a pairing built to look like a legitimate shared publication. PhishDestroy classifies it as an impersonation phishing page and first flagged it on 2026-09-19. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content, so it remains a live risk.

How the scam works

Fake document viewers usually reach victims through an email or chat message announcing a file to review, here framed as a magazine edition. The page shows a viewer-style screen and claims the document is locked until the visitor signs in, often with an email or webmail account. Whatever is typed into that prompt goes to the operators, who can then take over the mailbox, reset passwords on linked services and send the same lure to the victim's contacts.

Evidence

On 2026-09-29, 16 of 91 VirusTotal engines marked the domain as malicious, including BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar and Chong Lua Dao. That is a solid consensus for a site only about ten days old. Spamhaus lists the domain on its DBL as a spam domain, which fits a lure distributed through bulk messaging. Three AlienVault OTX threat pulses also reference it, so other researchers are tracking the same activity alongside the PhishDestroy blocklist entry.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-18 through GO54 Limited (formerly Whogohost Limited) and was flagged by PhishDestroy the next day. That one-day gap is typical of throwaway phishing domains set up for a single campaign. It resolves to 163.61.188.2, an address on the NEW DHAKA HARDWARE network that registers as Bangladeshi but is geolocated in the US. The Let's Encrypt certificate only means the padlock appears. It does not show the site is trustworthy.

What to do

If you entered a password on this "PDF Viewer," change it right away on that account and on any other account that uses the same password. Turn on two-factor authentication, sign out all active sessions, and check your mailbox for new forwarding rules or filters the attackers may have added. Warn your contacts not to open document links sent from your address in the past few weeks. Security teams should block the domain and its IP at the mail gateway and web proxy, search mail logs for messages linking to it, and reset credentials for any users who clicked through.
