PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

mediafiles.macoswinplus.com is an impersonation phishing page presented as a file download portal. Its page reads "File Ready - Download", and the parent name blends macOS and Windows branding to look like a legitimate software or media source. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-29. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content.

How the scam works

The visitor arrives expecting a file and finds a page saying it is ready to download. Fake download portals like this one borrow the look of a trusted service. They then either push the visitor to run an installer or archive, or ask them to sign in or enter details before the file is released. Whatever is run or typed on such a page ends up with the operators. Victims can lose account credentials, or the control of the computer itself if they open the delivered file.

Evidence

Six of 91 engines on VirusTotal flagged the domain as of 2026-10-01: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Kaspersky and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, but it comes from several unrelated vendors that reached the same conclusion on their own. It means many security tools and browsers may still let the page load without warning. PhishDestroy lists the domain on its own blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-08, three weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. That short gap is typical of throwaway lure sites. It is registered through Cloudflare, Inc., and its traffic runs through Cloudflare's network with a Canadian location, so the IP address reflects the proxy and not the real server behind it. The Google Trust Services certificate only means the connection is encrypted. It shows nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

If you downloaded anything from this site, do not open it. If you already ran it, disconnect the device from the network, run a full scan with an up-to-date security product, and consider reinstalling the system if anything suspicious turns up. If you entered a password or other login details, change that password everywhere you reused it and turn on two-factor authentication. Then review recent sign-in activity on the affected accounts. Defenders should block the domain and its parent at DNS and web proxies, and search endpoint and proxy logs for connections to it or downloads from it since 2026-09-08.
