PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ledgerstrt.pages.dev is a phishing page that impersonates Ledger, the hardware wallet maker. It targets people setting up or restoring a Ledger device. The page title reads "ledger start", and the misspelled subdomain imitates the onboarding step new owners expect to visit. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-31. The site has been offline since 2026-09-13, blocked by its hosting provider, and was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake Ledger setup pages exploit the moment a user unboxes a device or troubleshoots it. They present official-looking onboarding steps and then ask for the 24-word recovery phrase, or push a counterfeit companion app that collects it later. Ledger never asks for that phrase on a website. Anyone who types it in hands over full control of every account derived from it. The attacker can then empty the wallet from any device, and the hardware itself offers no protection.

Evidence

When scanned on 2026-09-12, none of the 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. That clean result does not mean the page was safe. It shows how fresh crypto phishing can slip past general-purpose scanners. The stronger signal comes from crypto-specific blocklists: besides PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL both list the domain, so wallet users with those protections would have been warned.

Infrastructure

The site ran on Cloudflare Pages, which gives a free subdomain under a shared platform domain. The operator never had to register a lookalike domain of their own. The project dates to 2025-09-22, almost a year before PhishDestroy detected it on 2026-08-31. Traffic resolved to Cloudflare's network with a Canadian location. The Google Trust Services certificate is issued automatically on this platform, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about who ran the page.

What to do

If you entered your Ledger recovery phrase on this page, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new phrase on a reset device and move any remaining funds to it immediately. Do not reuse the old phrase anywhere. If you downloaded software from the page, uninstall it, scan the machine, and get Ledger Live only through Ledger's official channels. Security teams should block the hostname and watch for similar lookalike subdomains on free hosting platforms. They should also send further copies to the platform's abuse team, since this one was taken down at the provider level.
