ledger-life-desktop.pages.dev is an impersonation phishing page posing as Ledger's official desktop companion app. It targets owners of Ledger hardware wallets who go looking for the desktop software. The misspelled "life" in place of "Live" is a deliberate lookalike. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-31. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11, its content was blocked by the hosting provider, and it was still down at the last check on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
The page presented itself as "Ledger Live Desktop® | Manage Your Crypto™ Assets Safely". The trademark symbols borrow the polish of an official download portal. Fake Ledger Live sites usually work one of two ways. Some ask the visitor to "restore", "sync" or "verify" the wallet by typing in the 24-word recovery phrase. Others hand out a counterfeit installer that requests the phrase later. Once the attacker has those words, they can rebuild the wallet on their own device and empty it, and the hardware wallet's protection is bypassed entirely. Ledger never asks for a recovery phrase on a website or in a computer app.
Evidence
On 2026-09-11, 13 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Emsisoft, G-Data, CyRadar and alphaMountain.ai. That is a modest share of engines, but these are mainstream security vendors acting independently. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and identified Ledger as the brand being imitated. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet users with those protections would have seen a warning.
Infrastructure
The page ran as a Cloudflare Pages project, which gave it a free subdomain on a trusted platform instead of a registered domain of its own. The project dates to 2025-10-11, nearly eleven months before PhishDestroy detected it. That suggests it either sat idle or ran quietly for a long time before attracting attention. Traffic was served through Cloudflare's network, geolocated to Canada. The provider blocked the content shortly after it was reported.
What to do
If you entered your recovery phrase on this site or in software downloaded from it, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a fresh device or wallet with a new phrase and move any remaining funds there immediately. If you installed anything from the page, uninstall it, scan the computer, and only download Ledger Live through Ledger's official website. Visitors who typed nothing in have lost nothing, but should still delete any downloaded files. Defenders should block lookalike Ledger names on free hosting platforms and report new variants to the provider and to wallet blocklists.
