Overview

idolanews.net is an impersonation phishing page: a site built to pass itself off as a source people already trust so they lower their guard. PhishDestroy added it to our blocklist on 2026-09-11. The domain went offline on 2026-09-20, and on 2026-10-19 it was still dead, with its DNS no longer resolving.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages borrow the look, name or tone of a familiar brand or publication and use it to steer visitors toward an action they would never take on an unknown site. In crypto scams, that usually means logging in through a fake form, entering a recovery phrase, or following links to a fraudulent investment or giveaway. The victim loses whatever they type or send: account credentials, personal details, or crypto transferred to the operators. A news-style name like this one lends the page a borrowed air of editorial credibility.

Evidence

Thirteen of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-09-18. The vendors included BitDefender, ESET, Kaspersky, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft and alphaMountain.ai. Several of these are established vendors working independently, so the agreement carries more weight than the raw count suggests. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers have tracked it as well.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through GoDaddy.com, LLC on 2019-08-08, roughly seven years before we flagged it. Aged domains like this tend to slip past filters that distrust brand-new registrations. It was hosted on Amazon's AMAZON-02 network in the US at 76.223.67.189. Its certificate was a GoDaddy domain-validated certificate, which only proves control of the domain, so the padlock said nothing about who ran the site.

What to do

If you entered a password on idolanews.net, change it right away, along with the password on any other account that uses it. Then turn on app-based two-factor authentication. If you typed in a wallet recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and move your funds to a new wallet created with a fresh phrase. If you sent money or crypto because of something on the page, report it to your exchange or bank and file a report with local authorities. Defenders should block the domain and its IP, then search proxy and DNS logs from around 2026-09-11 to 2026-09-20 to find users who may have reached it.
