PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

forexapp.cc posed as FOREX.com, the well-known retail forex and CFD broker. Its page title was copied word for word: "Trade Online with an Award-winning Global Forex Broker - FOREX.com". The site targeted traders who believed they were opening or logging into a real brokerage account. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-05. It went offline on 2026-09-15, and its DNS was still inactive at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

A broker clone works because its victims expect to type in sensitive details and send money. The fake FOREX.com front invites them to sign in, which hands their real broker credentials to the operators. It may also ask them to fund a new account. Money deposited this way goes straight to the scammers. Some clones show fake trading profits and then demand a "tax" or "withdrawal fee" before releasing funds that never existed.

Evidence

Independent detection was thin. Only 3 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-17: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and SOCRadar. Beyond PhishDestroy's own blocklist, it appears in one AlienVault OTX threat pulse. A low score like this means most security tools would have let a visitor through without warning, so the near-verbatim brand title counts for more than the vendor tally.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Gname.com Pte. Ltd. on 2026-01-27. That is more than seven months before PhishDestroy detected it, so it was either held in reserve or ran quietly before being flagged. The site was hosted on the Nebula Global LLC network in Japan. It went dark ten days after detection, a short public life that is common for brand-clone domains once reporting begins.

What to do

If you entered a username and password on forexapp.cc, change your real FOREX.com password at once. Enable two-factor authentication and check your account for unfamiliar logins or withdrawals. If you sent a deposit, contact your bank or card issuer right away to dispute it. Report the incident to FOREX.com and your local financial regulator. Ignore any follow-up asking for fees to release your money, because that request is part of the same scam. Defenders should block the domain, add it to brand-abuse watchlists, and search mail and proxy logs for users who visited it between 2026-09-05 and 2026-09-15.
