How the scam works
Fake wallet download sites rely on borrowed trust. The visitor believes they have found the project's own software, so they install whatever the page offers or type their recovery phrase into it. In schemes of this kind, the download is usually a trojanized wallet or another malicious installer, or the "wallet" asks the user to import an existing seed phrase. Either path gives the operators control of the victim's funds, and a seed phrase that has been exposed can be used to empty every address derived from it, not only the FIL balance.
Evidence
Independent detection is solid. On 2026-09-23, 12 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including the crypto-focused ChainPatrol alongside BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF and CyRadar. Spamhaus lists it in its DBL under the phishing category. MetaMask's and SEAL's blocklists include it alongside PhishDestroy, and it appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses. Together these sources confirm the classification from several vendors working independently.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-08-15 through Key-Systems GmbH, about a month before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap fits a site that was set up and then promoted as a wallet download. It is hosted on ALEXHOST SRL's network in Moldova. The free Let's Encrypt certificate gives the page a browser padlock, but the padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.
What to do
Do not download or run anything from this site. If you installed its wallet, disconnect that computer and treat it as compromised. From a separate, clean device, create a new wallet with a fresh recovery phrase and move your FIL and any other assets there right away. If you typed a seed phrase or private key into the site or its software, assume the phrase is burned and move the funds before the attackers do. Get wallet software only through links published on Filecoin's official channels.
