cosclearance.com is an impersonation phishing page that uses the Costco brand to dangle a free gift card in front of shoppers. Its page is titled "$500 Costco Gift Card Offer", and it targets anyone who recognizes the retailer and clicks through from an ad, text message or social post. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-05. On 2026-10-19 the domain still existed, but its DNS was inactive and the lure was not loading. The owner could point it at a server again at any time.
How the scam works
Fake retailer giveaways like this usually start with a short survey or "you've been selected" prompt that makes a $500 Costco card feel earned. The victim is then asked for a name, address, phone number and email to "ship" the reward. Often the page also asks for a card number to cover a small delivery or processing fee. That fee is the real payload. The card details can be reused for larger charges or enrolled in recurring billing, and the personal data gets resold or used for follow-up scam calls and texts. No gift card ever arrives.
Evidence
urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Costco branding on it, which matches our classification. On VirusTotal, 7 of 91 engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-06: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, G-Data, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, so many browsers and filters may not have warned visitors. The domain also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, and it is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Namecheap on 2026-08-28, about five weeks before we caught it. That lead time is consistent with a domain set up in advance for a campaign. Its traffic ran through Cloudflare, with the address geolocating to Poland. Cloudflare sits in front of a site and hides the real origin server. The site had a valid certificate from Google Trust Services, so the browser padlock showed nothing unusual and gave visitors no reason for suspicion.
What to do
If you entered a card number, call your bank now. Block the card, dispute any charges, and watch for small test transactions or new subscriptions. If you gave your address, phone or email, expect convincing follow-up messages that claim to be from Costco or a courier, and do not answer them. Costco does not hand out $500 cards through clearance sites. Security teams should block cosclearance.com at DNS and the web proxy. They should also search mail and SMS logs for links to it and alert staff, because the domain could start serving the lure again without warning.
