PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

cobaws1.com is an impersonation phishing site: it was built to pass itself off as a legitimate service so visitors would trust it with sensitive information. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-09-02. The site went offline on 2026-09-14, and its DNS was still inactive when we last checked on 2026-10-19, so it lasted under two weeks after we flagged it.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages copy the look, wording and flow of a brand people already use, then ask for something that only the real service should receive: account passwords, one-time codes, card details or, on crypto-themed clones, a wallet recovery phrase. Whatever the victim types goes straight to the operators, who use it to take over the account or empty the wallet. The page title read "Nur einen Moment…", a German "just a moment" waiting message rather than branded content, while we classified the site as impersonation phishing.

Evidence

Independent detection was thin. VirusTotal returned 0 detections across 89 engines on 2026-09-13, one day before the site went dark. That means most security vendors never caught it during its short life, and PhishDestroy is the only blocklist carrying it. The domain does appear in 3 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which shows other researchers tracked it as part of broader malicious activity.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through HOSTINGER operations, UAB. Its traffic ran behind Cloudflare, Inc. on an address geolocated to Canada, so the real origin server stayed hidden behind Cloudflare's proxy. The site was active for about twelve days between our first detection and its disappearance, which fits a short-lived campaign that drops its domain once it is flagged.

What to do

If you entered a password on cobaws1.com, change it on the real service and on any other account that uses the same password, then turn on app-based 2FA or a hardware key and sign out of all active sessions. If you gave card details, call your bank and have the card blocked. If you typed a wallet recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and move your funds to a new wallet with a fresh phrase immediately. Security teams should block the domain and search proxy and DNS logs for lookups between 2026-09-02 and 2026-09-14 to find users who may have been exposed.
