PhishDestroy threat report
changenow-dex.at is an impersonation phishing page that copied the ChangeNOW instant-exchange brand under the page title "ChangeNOW | Instant Crypto Swaps". The added "-dex" and the Austrian .at ending were chosen to look like a plausible regional or decentralized edition of the real service. It targets people who want to convert one cryptocurrency into another quickly. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-03. The site went offline on 2026-09-12 and was still dead when last checked on 2026-10-19.
ChangeNOW's real model is simple: pick a pair, send coins to a deposit address, and receive the other asset. A clone of that flow lets the operator show a deposit address they control. The victim sends their coins and nothing comes back. Swap clones with "DEX" branding may also ask visitors to connect a wallet and sign transactions or token approvals, which can hand an attacker the ability to move assets directly. Either way, the loss is the crypto sent or exposed, and on-chain transfers cannot be reversed.
Sixteen of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-16, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar and the Vietnamese anti-scam group Chong Lua Dao. That is a broad mix of vendors for a site that was live only about nine days. The MetaMask and SEAL blocklists list it alongside PhishDestroy, so wallet users with those protections would have seen warnings. Spamhaus places it on its Domain Block List as spam. Five AlienVault OTX pulses reference it, which ties it to threat activity that other researchers tracked independently.
The site was served from 130.12.180.128 on a network in the Netherlands, far from the Austrian identity the domain name suggests. Its whole visible life lasted from first detection on 2026-09-03 to going dark on 2026-09-12. That short window is typical of throwaway phishing domains that are used briefly and then dropped once blocklists catch up.
If you sent coins to an address shown on this site, record the transaction hash and the receiving address, then report them to ChangeNOW's official support and to your local police or cybercrime unit. If you connected a wallet or signed anything, revoke token approvals with a trusted approval checker. Move remaining funds to a new wallet if you entered a seed phrase. Treat any follow-up message offering to "recover" your funds as a second scam. Defenders should block the domain and the hosting IP, and watch for lookalike ChangeNOW domains using swap or DEX wording.
