How the scam works
The page title is the hook: it frames the site as an official home for The Index and promises rewards in stocks simply for holding. Pages like this usually funnel visitors toward connecting a wallet or signing a transaction to "claim" or "register" for the payout. That signature can hand an attacker permission to move tokens or can transfer assets outright. The stock reward never arrives, and whatever the wallet approved can be emptied.
Evidence
Within four days of registration, 11 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-10-11. The vendors included alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Emsisoft, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft and Netcraft. Wallet-focused defenders reached the same verdict independently: MetaMask, ScamSniffer and SEAL all list it alongside PhishDestroy. MetaMask's listing means many users are warned before the page loads.
Infrastructure
The domain was bought through Spaceship, Inc. and caught on its first day, which fits a throwaway site meant to work only until it is blocked. The cheap .cyou extension and the "finance" suffix tacked onto the brand name are typical of quickly spun-up lookalikes. Traffic runs through Cloudflare, Inc. at an address geolocated to Canada, so the origin server stays hidden behind the proxy.
What to do
If you connected a wallet or signed anything on this site, check your token approvals with a revocation tool right away and cancel any you do not recognize. Then move the remaining funds to a fresh wallet. Never enter a seed phrase on a site promising holder rewards. If you already did, treat that wallet as fully compromised. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and watch for sibling domains reusing the "The Index" branding.
