PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

tapbit-web.com is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself as Tapbit, a cryptocurrency exchange. Its page title reads simply "TAPBIT", and the hyphenated "-web" domain is meant to pass as an official web version of the platform. It targets Tapbit users and anyone searching for the exchange. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-19, and as of 2026-10-19 the domain was still live and serving content through a redirect.

How the scam works

Exchange impersonation sites copy the branding and login flow of the real platform so visitors type their account email, password and two-factor codes into a form the operators control. Those credentials can then be replayed on the genuine exchange to empty balances. Fake exchange fronts also commonly show a deposit address or a fabricated account balance, then demand "verification" or "withdrawal fees" before any payout, and that money is never returned. A visitor who trusts the "TAPBIT" branding risks losing both account access and any funds sent to the site.

Evidence

On 2026-09-29, 13 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar and Ermes. That is a minority of engines, but the vendors come from independent sources and agree on the verdict. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, Spamhaus lists it in its DBL as spam, and it is referenced in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through GoDaddy.com, LLC on 2026-07-24, about eight weeks before PhishDestroy detected it, a short lifespan typical of disposable phishing domains. It is hosted on GoDaddy's network in Singapore. The site uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether it is the real Tapbit.

What to do

If you entered Tapbit login details here, change your password on the genuine exchange immediately, reset two-factor authentication, sign out all sessions and review recent withdrawals and API keys. Reuse of that password elsewhere means those accounts need changing too. Do not send any further "fees" or deposits to unlock a balance shown on this site. Report any losses to Tapbit support and your local authorities. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and watch for similar Tapbit lookalikes registered in the same period.
