How the scam works
Victims are drawn in by the promise of Syrup's yield and land on a page branded as Maple Finance. Fake DeFi front-ends like this typically ask the visitor to connect a wallet and then request token approvals or signatures presented as a routine deposit. Once signed, those permissions let the operator move the approved tokens out of the wallet. Because a copied lending interface looks legitimate, many users approve without reading what they are granting.
Evidence
When checked on 2026-10-07, 8 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky, Netcraft, SOCRadar and Sophos. That is a modest share, but it includes several established phishing-focused feeds. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as phishing. ScamSniffer, which specializes in crypto drainers, blocks it alongside PhishDestroy.
