PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

smart-safety.coinbase-gps.com is a phishing page that impersonates Coinbase. It targets Coinbase customers with a subdomain that pairs the brand name with security-flavored wording. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-15. The site went offline on 2026-10-17 and was still unreachable when rechecked on 2026-10-19. The page title reads "Cenyee", which does not match the Coinbase branding we classified the site under.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages like this copy the look of a trusted exchange so the visitor believes they are dealing with Coinbase itself. The "smart-safety" label suggests a security pretext, such as an account check or protection step. That framing pushes users to enter their login email, password and one-time 2FA codes. Some variants also ask for a wallet recovery phrase. Whatever is typed goes to the operators, who can then sign in, change account settings and withdraw funds before the victim notices.

Evidence

VirusTotal showed 0 detections out of 92 engines on 2026-10-15, so a clean result there offers no reassurance for this domain. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and recognized Coinbase branding on it. The domain is also listed on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, which means several independent sources reached the same conclusion.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-07 through eName Technology Co.,Ltd., only eight days before PhishDestroy caught it. It was hosted on IP 137.59.18.85 on the Yancy Limited network in the US. The certificate came from Let's Encrypt, so the browser padlock only showed an encrypted connection, not a legitimate site. About ten days passed from registration to the page going dark, which fits a disposable phishing domain used briefly and then abandoned.

What to do

If you entered credentials here, change your Coinbase password immediately. Reset 2FA, preferably to an authenticator app or hardware key, and sign out all active sessions. Review recent logins, API keys, linked devices and withdrawal addresses, and contact Coinbase support about any activity you don't recognize. If you typed a recovery phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and move the funds to a new wallet created with a fresh phrase. Defenders should block the domain and the related coinbase-gps.com hostnames, and watch for similar Coinbase lookalikes registered through the same channels.

How do phishing scams typically work?
