PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

safepso.cam is a fraudulent website posing as a decentralized cryptocurrency exchange under the CME Group brand, a well-known and legitimate derivatives marketplace. It targets retail crypto investors and traders who may recognize the CME name and trust it with real funds. PhishDestroy first identified this site on 2026-09-15, just two days after the domain was registered. As of 2026-10-19 the site remains live and actively serving content.

How the scam works

The site presents itself as a low-fee, high-liquidity decentralized trading platform, borrowing CME Group's credibility to appear legitimate. Victims are typically lured through social media promotions, messaging apps or search ads and directed to create an account and deposit cryptocurrency. Once funds are deposited, the platform either blocks withdrawals, demands additional fees to release balances, or simply disappears with the money. No real trading occurs; every deposit goes directly to the scammers.

Evidence

Six of 91 antivirus and threat-intelligence engines on VirusTotal flagged this domain as malicious as of 2026-09-25, with detections from alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. Spamhaus classifies it as DBL_PHISH on its Domain Block List. The domain appears in four OTX threat-intelligence pulses and is actively blocked by PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL. Detection counts are moderate rather than overwhelming, which is common for a site only days old at the time of checking.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-13 through Gname.com Pte. Ltd. and is hosted on Cloudflare's network with a Canadian-routed IP. TLS is provided by Let's Encrypt, a free automated certificate authority. The combination of a very recent registration, a privacy-friendly registrar and Cloudflare hosting is typical of short-lived fraud infrastructure designed to be quickly replaced.
