money-guard.online was a phishing site posing as Ricardo, the Swiss online marketplace, aimed at people buying and selling there. Its German page title, "Über die App" ("About the app"), matched the language of much of that Swiss audience. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-11. The site went offline on 2026-09-11, and when last checked on 2026-10-19 its DNS was no longer resolving.
How the scam works
Ricardo impersonation usually starts outside the platform. A fake buyer or a message about a sale sends a link claiming that payment is waiting or protected and only needs to be "received." The domain name, with its promise of a money guard, fits that lure. The page imitates Ricardo's look and asks for a Ricardo login, then often for bank card details, including card number, expiry and security code, or for a one-time code from the victim's bank. Whatever is typed goes to the operators, who use it to take over marketplace accounts or charge the card.
Evidence
Several independent sources agree. On 2026-08-21, 21 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, CyRadar and Chong Lua Dao. Google Safe Browsing classed it as social engineering, and urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict that specifically identified the Ricardo brand. Spamhaus lists it in its domain blocklist as phishing, and it appears in five AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers tracked it too.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-03-17 through Global Domain Group LLC. That was nearly five months before PhishDestroy detected it, which suggests it was set up in advance or used quietly before it drew attention. It sat behind Cloudflare in the US, so its real origin server was hidden behind the shared network.
What to do
If you entered your Ricardo password on this site, change it now on the real Ricardo app or site, and change it anywhere else you reused it. Turn on two-factor authentication and check your account for listings, messages or payout details you did not create. If you typed in card details or a bank code, call your bank right away to block the card and dispute any unknown charges. Remember that a genuine sale never requires you to enter card data to receive money.
