PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

luno-rp.com impersonates Luno, the cryptocurrency exchange, behind a page titled "APP download". It targets Luno customers and people looking for the exchange's mobile app. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-29. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content, so it remains an active risk.

How the scam works

The page presents itself as the place to download Luno's app. This kind of scheme borrows a trusted exchange's name to get visitors to install a counterfeit application or sign in through a fake login flow. Victims hand over their email, password and one-time codes. With those, attackers can take over the real exchange account and withdraw its crypto balance, which is usually unrecoverable once it leaves the platform. Luno's genuine apps come only from official app stores and Luno's own site, never from a lookalike domain with an added suffix like "-rp".

Evidence

Ten of 91 engines on VirusTotal flagged the domain as of 2026-10-01. The flagging vendors include alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data and Gridinsoft. That is a minority of engines, but it is a broad and independent set for a domain only days old. urlscan.io rated the page malicious and matched it to the Luno brand. The domain also appears on the PhishDestroy, MetaMask and SEAL blocklists.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-27 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown, just two days before PhishDestroy detected it. That short gap is typical of a site built for a quick phishing run. It resolves to Cloudflare, Inc. address space geolocated to Canada, which places it behind Cloudflare's network rather than revealing the origin server. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gives the site a browser padlock, which shows only that the connection is encrypted, not that the operator is legitimate.

What to do

If you entered Luno login details on this site, change your Luno password immediately from the official app or website. Reset two-factor authentication, and change the password anywhere else you reused it. Review your Luno account for unfamiliar devices, withdrawal addresses or API keys, remove any you don't recognise, and contact Luno support if funds moved. If you installed an app from this page, uninstall it and reinstall Luno only from an official store. Defenders should block luno-rp.com at DNS and web proxy level and watch logs for prior visits from their users.
