PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

lighterexchange.fi is a fraudulent site impersonating Lighter XYZ, a zero-fee ZK perpetuals decentralized exchange, and falsely advertising a LIT token airdrop for 2026. The site targets crypto traders and wallet holders who may be anticipating a legitimate Lighter protocol token distribution. PhishDestroy first identified it on 2026-09-23, just three days after the domain was registered. As of 2026-10-19 the site remains live and actively serving malicious content.

How the scam works

The page, titled "Lighter xyz Explained - Zero-Fee ZK Perp DEX, LIT Token & Airdrop 2026", mimics the branding and language of the real Lighter protocol to convince visitors they are eligible for a free LIT token claim. Victims are prompted to connect their crypto wallet and sign a transaction or approval to "claim" their airdrop. In a standard fake airdrop scheme, that interaction either drains the wallet of existing tokens or grants the attacker an open spending approval they can exploit later. The victim receives nothing and may lose all assets held in the connected wallet.

Evidence

Eleven of 92 engines on VirusTotal flagged lighterexchange.fi as malicious as of 2026-10-07, with detections from BitDefender, Kaspersky, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, and alphaMountain.ai, among others. The domain appears in four Open Threat Exchange pulses, indicating active community tracking. It is listed on three blocklists — PhishDestroy, MetaMask, and SEAL — meaning major wallet software is already warning users before they connect.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-20 through Immaterialism Ltd, giving it only three days of existence before it was spotted in the wild. It is hosted on Cloudflare infrastructure at an IP geolocated to Canada. The TLS certificate was issued by Google Trust Services under the WE1 intermediate, providing a padlock that lends false legitimacy to the site.

What to do

If you visited the site but did not connect a wallet or sign anything, no immediate action is required beyond avoiding any return visit. If you connected a wallet, immediately audit and revoke all token approvals granted during or after that session using a trusted approval-management tool, then transfer remaining assets to a fresh wallet address.
