PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

ledger--livedesktop--welcome.pages.dev is an impersonation phishing page that copies Ledger's onboarding for its desktop companion app. It appeared under the title "Ledger Live Desktop | Getting Started" and targeted people setting up or reinstalling Ledger Live. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-01. The site went offline on 2026-09-13, when its hosting provider blocked the content, and it was still dead at the last check on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page poses as Ledger's official "Getting Started" screen. That is where real users expect to download software or restore a device, so a request for sensitive input feels routine. Fake Ledger Live pages typically lead victims in one of two ways: they ask for the 24-word recovery phrase under a pretext like "sync" or "verification," or they push a trojanized Ledger Live installer that requests the phrase later. Ledger never asks for the recovery phrase on a website or in an app. Anyone who types it in hands over full control of every account on that device, and attackers usually empty those accounts within minutes.

Evidence

On 2026-09-13, 16 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, alphaMountain.ai and the Vietnamese anti-scam group Chong Lua Dao. That is a solid independent consensus for a short-lived page on a free hosting subdomain. urlscan.io rated the page malicious, although its brand matcher tagged it as generic Cloudflare rather than Ledger. MetaMask's and SEAL's blocklists also list it, alongside PhishDestroy's.

Infrastructure

The site ran on Cloudflare Pages, a free static-hosting service that gives anyone a subdomain without buying a domain. The subdomain was created on 2025-09-30, almost eleven months before PhishDestroy detected it. It was served through Cloudflare's network with an address geolocated to Canada. Its certificate came from Google Trust Services, which is automatic on this platform and says nothing about the page's legitimacy. The double-hyphen naming strings together "ledger," "livedesktop" and "welcome" so the address passes a quick glance.

What to do

If you entered your recovery phrase on this page, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a fresh device or reset with a new phrase, then move any remaining funds to the new addresses immediately. If you downloaded and ran software from it, uninstall it, scan the machine, and reinstall Ledger Live only from Ledger's official site. If you connected a software wallet, review and revoke token approvals. Defenders should block the domain, watch for similar pages.dev subdomains combining Ledger branding with words like "live" or "welcome," and report new copies to Cloudflare's abuse team.
