PhishDestroy threat report
buffalowildswingss.com is an impersonation phishing page dressed up as the Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant chain. The domain adds an extra "s" in the middle and another at the end, so a hurried reader sees the familiar name. It targets fans and customers of the brand. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-05. The site has been offline since 2026-09-27, and on our last check on 2026-10-19 it was still down with no harmful content.
The page carried the chain's real slogan as its title, "Buffalo Wild Wings | Wings. Beer. Sports", so a browser tab or search snippet looked authentic. Restaurant impersonation pages like this usually draw visitors with a fake promotion, free-wings giveaway, gift card or rewards login. They then ask for account credentials, personal details or payment card data. Victims can lose control of their rewards account, see fraudulent card charges, and become targets for follow-up phishing using the details they handed over.
Four of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain when it was checked on 2026-09-18: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a low count, but four unrelated vendors reaching the same verdict on a misspelled brand domain is a meaningful signal. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers were tracking it too. PhishDestroy lists it on its blocklist.
The domain was registered on 2026-05-19 through Fewmoretaps OU d/b/a Trustname.com, about three and a half months before PhishDestroy detected it. Registering a lookalike name early and using it later is common in brand phishing. The site sat behind Cloudflare, with the edge address geolocated to Canada, which hides the real origin server. It used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock icon proved nothing about who ran the site.
If you entered a Buffalo Wild Wings or other account password here, change it at once, and change it anywhere you reused it. Turn on two-factor authentication where it is offered. If you typed in card details, call your bank to cancel the card and dispute any unfamiliar charges. Expect phishing emails or texts that mention your recent visit or order, and do not click links in them. Defenders should block the domain and watch for similar misspelled versions of the brand name, since this operator may register new lookalikes.
