PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

usdc229.com is an impersonation phishing site whose domain borrows the USDC stablecoin name, with a number appended, to look like an official or affiliated USDC service. It targets crypto users who hold or want to earn on USDC. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-09. The site has been offline since 2026-10-14, and its content was blocked by the provider when we last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages like this one use a trusted crypto brand to make an ordinary-looking page feel safe. Victims are then pushed to connect a wallet, sign a transaction, deposit stablecoins or type in login details. Each of those actions hands control of funds or accounts to the operator, and on-chain transfers cannot be reversed. The page title read "onkeyon", which does not mention USDC, while we classified the site as USDC impersonation based on its domain and behaviour.

Evidence

Independent detection is thin. On 2026-10-13, two of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and LevelBlue. A clean result from most vendors on a young phishing domain usually means they had not reviewed it yet. It does not mean the site was safe. The domain appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have also linked it to malicious activity, and it is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2025-11-09 through Gname.com Pte. Ltd., roughly eleven months before we detected it. That gap suggests it was held in reserve or used quietly before this campaign surfaced. The site sat behind Cloudflare, so the listed Canadian address belongs to Cloudflare's proxy network, not the operator's own server. Its padlock certificate came from Google Trust Services, which shows that a valid HTTPS connection says nothing about whether a site is honest.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to usdc229.com, review the token approvals you granted and revoke any you do not recognise. If you signed transactions or shared a seed phrase, move your remaining USDC and other assets to a fresh wallet. If you entered exchange or email credentials, change those passwords and turn on app-based two-factor authentication. Do not pay any further "fees" to recover funds, because follow-up recovery offers are a common second scam. Security teams should block the domain, search proxy and DNS logs for past visits, and watch for sibling domains that pair "usdc" with numbers.
