PhishDestroy threat report
kakaokap.com is an impersonation phishing domain whose name is built to pass for Kakao, the South Korean messaging and payments brand. It targets users who trust that name with their logins or payment details. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-14. The site has been offline since 2026-10-14 and was still down at the last check on 2026-10-19.
Impersonation sites copy the look and wording of a trusted service so that a victim, usually arriving from a message or search result, believes they are on the real thing. Once there, the victim is asked to sign in, confirm an account or approve a payment. Whatever they type, such as usernames, passwords, verification codes or card details, goes straight to the operators, who can then take over the account or move money. When we last loaded it, the page showed only a "404 Not Found" title, which differs from the impersonation activity we classified it for.
Fifteen of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-09-25. The vendors include BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, alphaMountain.ai, CyRadar and the Vietnamese anti-phishing project Chong Lua Dao. That is a moderate but meaningful level of agreement from independent security engines, enough to show that our verdict is not an isolated call. The domain also appears in three AlienVault OTX threat pulses, where other researchers have tied it to malicious activity, and it is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
The domain was registered on 2025-09-09 through NameCheap, Inc., roughly a year before PhishDestroy detected it. A domain that sits that long before it shows up in phishing is often registered early and then put to use later, which helps it avoid filters that distrust brand-new names. It was hosted on Namecheap's own network in the United States.
If you entered a password on kakaokap.com, change it right away through the official Kakao app. Change it on any other service where you reused it, and turn on two-step verification. If you entered card or bank details, call your bank to block the card and dispute any charges you don't recognize. Review your Kakao account's active sessions and log out any device you don't know. Security teams should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and search mail and chat logs for links to it. They should also keep watching it, because a dead site on a domain that is still registered can come back online.
