PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

badworkweargear.shop is an impersonation phishing page posing as the Bad Workwear retail brand. It presents itself under the title "High-Quality Workwear, Work Shoes and Boots | Bad Workwear" to draw in tradespeople and anyone shopping for work boots and protective clothing. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-10, and the site was still online with its storefront content live as of 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The domain adds "gear" and a cheap .shop extension to a name built around the brand, so it looks like an official or authorized outlet in search results and ads. Shoppers browse what appears to be a genuine workwear catalogue, often with tempting prices, and go through a checkout that asks for a delivery address, contact details and card information. In schemes like this the order either never ships or a worthless substitute arrives, while the payment and card details go to the operators. Those details can then be reused for further fraud.

Evidence

On 2026-10-15, 11 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as harmful. The vendors included alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, Chong Lua Dao, CyRadar, ESET, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data and Gridinsoft. That is a minority of engines, but the vendors come from several separate security companies, which supports the classification. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and specifically marked the page as a fake shop. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it as well.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-05-05, about five months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests it was set up in advance or had been operating quietly for some time. The site is hosted on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in Georgia (GE), at 23.252.79.168. This is an offshore setup with no visible connection to the brand it copies.

What to do

If you ordered from this site, contact your bank or card issuer right away, report the charge as fraud and ask for a chargeback. Ask for the card to be replaced, because the number may be reused. If you created an account there, change that password anywhere else you used it. Expect follow-up phishing emails or texts posing as delivery or refund notices, and treat them with suspicion. Buy Bad Workwear products only through the brand's verified channels. Security teams and mail filters should block the domain and its hosting IP. Retail and payment fraud teams can watch for similar lookalike storefronts that combine the brand name with generic words on low-cost extensions.

Recommendations & Advice for Victims

Choose the steps that match what you shared. Keep a copy of this report alongside your own records.

What should I do immediately?

Urgent

Stop using the suspicious site. Open the real service through its official app or an address you already trust.

  • Change all passwords — email, exchange accounts, anything that shares the same password
  • Enable 2FA using an authenticator app (not SMS). Disable SMS-based recovery
  • Freeze cards if you entered banking details on the phishing site

What information should I collect for my report?

FBI guidelines

Keep original emails, receipts, messages and screenshots in a secure place. A factual timeline helps the receiving authority understand what happened. IC3 evidence guidance ↗

  • Payment records — if you paid, save the receipt, amount, date, payment provider and recipient details.
  • Exact dates & times — of each transaction and first contact with scammer
  • Screenshots — scam website, chat messages, emails, wallet transactions, social media
  • All URLs & domains used by the scammer (including badworkweargear.shop)
  • Communications — emails, texts, phone numbers, usernames the scammer used

Even if you don't have all details — file a report anyway. Partial information still helps investigations.

Where should I report the scam?

  • FBI IC3 — Internet Crime Complaint Center (US federal reporting)
  • Europol — European cybercrime reporting (EU)
  • Your bank or payment provider — contact its fraud team promptly through official contact details if money or card information was exposed.
  • Local police — creates an official record, even if they can't act immediately

A report is not a guarantee of recovery or investigation, but prompt, accurate transaction data can help authorities and service providers trace the incident.

How do phishing scams typically work?

  • Fake websites — pixel-perfect clones of legitimate sites with slightly altered domains
  • Pig butchering — trust built over weeks via Telegram/WhatsApp/dating apps, then money stolen
  • Recovery scams — fraudsters pose as recovery agents and demand upfront fees. Never share a seed phrase or pay before independently verifying the provider
  • AI-powered scams — deepfakes, automated phishing, and AI-generated sites making fraud harder to detect

How can I protect myself in the future?

  • Bookmark official sites — never click links from emails, DMs, or ads
  • Verify domains — check on PhishDestroy before interacting. Check HTTPS, spelling, domain age
  • "Too good to be true" = scam — guaranteed returns, celebrity endorsements, urgent deadlines
