PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

halifaxcreditunions.sflb.org is a phishing page that impersonates a Halifax credit union. Its page title, "Home - halifaxcreditunion", is built to look like a member's normal landing page. It targets credit union members and anyone searching for online banking access. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-12, and the page was still online and serving content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The site copies a credit union homepage and steers visitors toward what looks like a member login. Anything typed there, including member number, username, password, one-time codes and security answers, goes to the operators instead of the real institution. urlscan.io matched the page against generic banking templates, which fits a cloned financial login portal. With those details, criminals can sign in to the real account, move money, change contact information or open new credit in the victim's name.

Evidence

Twelve of 89 VirusTotal engines marked the domain malicious as of 2026-09-20. The vendors include BitDefender, Fortinet, Netcraft, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, CRDF and alphaMountain.ai. These are separate vendors reaching the same verdict on their own. urlscan.io also returned a malicious verdict, Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam, and it is on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The parent domain was registered on 2026-03-06 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown. That is about six months before PhishDestroy detected the lure. The phishing page sits on a subdomain rather than a dedicated domain, so the credit union name appears in the hostname without being the registered name. The site is hosted in the US on the NEW DHAKA HARDWARE network. Its free, automatically issued Let's Encrypt certificate gives it the browser padlock, which proves nothing about legitimacy.

What to do

If you entered credentials here, change your online banking password right away from the credit union's official app or a bookmarked address. Then reset any other account that uses the same password. Call your credit union on the number printed on your card, report the compromise, and ask them to review recent transactions and payees. Turn on or reset two-factor authentication and watch for calls or texts asking you to "confirm" codes. Security teams should block the hostname and its parent domain at DNS and the mail gateway, and search logs for users who visited it.
