PhishDestroy threat report
based.asia is an impersonation phishing page that poses as a governance vote for the Based project. Its headline is "Based Rewards Proposal | Eligible Voters Receive Rewards". It targets holders and community members who expect governance votes to come with incentives. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-07, and it was still online and serving its content when checked on 2026-10-19.
The lure is a fake governance proposal that tells visitors they are eligible voters and can collect a reward by taking part. Pages of this kind usually ask the visitor to connect a wallet to "verify eligibility" or "cast a vote." They then present a signature or transaction request that the visitor believes is a ballot. In practice, that request can grant token approvals or sign over assets, so the victim loses wallet funds rather than gaining a reward. Real governance votes do not require you to approve token spending to receive rewards.
13 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-11, including BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, alphaMountain.ai, CRDF and Gridinsoft. That count is modest, but these vendors work independently of each other. The site also appears on the MetaMask, ScamSniffer and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, which is a strong sign the crypto security community considers it a wallet threat. Four AlienVault OTX threat pulses reference the domain, so other researchers are tracking it too.
The domain was registered through Spaceship, Inc. on 2026-10-06, only a day before PhishDestroy detected it. That timing fits a site built specifically for this campaign rather than a compromised older website. Traffic is fronted by Cloudflare (AS13335) on US-based addresses, which hides the actual origin server. The Let's Encrypt certificate only means the padlock is present and says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.
If you connected a wallet and signed anything on based.asia, open a token-approval checker straight away and revoke any allowances granted around the time of your visit. If you suspect a signature exposed your assets, move what remains to a fresh wallet. Treat any "voter reward" claim as suspect unless it appears on the Based project's official channels. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and proxy level and warn communities where fake governance links circulate. Abuse reports can be sent to the registrar and to Cloudflare.
