How the scam works
The page title, "One Investment Group | Independent Australian funds management business," shows the hook: a polished replica of an established fund manager. Schemes like this usually reach victims through ads, cold calls or messages promising steady returns. They then steer victims to sign up, hand over identity documents and bank details, and transfer money into a supposed fund. Because the brand looks legitimate, victims tend to deposit larger sums. Victims can lose the money they sent, along with personal and financial data that can be reused for identity fraud or follow-up "recovery" scams.
Evidence
Fourteen of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain when it was scanned on 2026-09-21. That is a meaningful count for a site that lived only briefly. The flagging vendors include BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, alphaMountain.ai and the Vietnamese anti-phishing group Chong Lua Dao. The domain also appears in five AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers tracked it independently. It is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Namecheap on 2026-06-03, about three and a half months before it was detected. A gap like that suggests the name was bought in advance and held until the campaign was ready. Traffic ran through Cloudflare's network, with the address geolocated to Canada, so the real origin server stayed hidden. The site used a free, automatically issued Google Trust Services certificate. The padlock in the browser therefore said nothing about whether the site was genuine.
What to do
If you sent money after dealing with this site, contact your bank or payment provider immediately and ask them to recall or freeze the transfer. Report the fraud to the police and to Scamwatch or your national equivalent. If you uploaded ID documents or shared account details, consider a credit freeze or identity-theft monitoring. Change any passwords you reused there. Do not pay anyone who later offers to recover your funds for a fee. Defenders should block the domain, watch for lookalike domains that use the One Investment Group name, and warn clients to verify any investment offer through the firm's official contact channels.
