PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

verifywal.com poses as Walmart and greets visitors with the headline "Get Your $750 Gift Card". It is aimed at ordinary shoppers who receive the link through ads, texts or social posts promising a free reward. PhishDestroy first flagged the domain on 2026-10-07. On 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its phishing content.

How the scam works

The $750 gift card is the bait, and the "verify" in the domain name hints at the hook. Pages like this usually ask the victim to confirm eligibility through a short survey and then collect a name, address, phone number and email. The final step typically requests a bank card to cover a small shipping or processing fee. That card entry is the real goal, and it often leads to recurring charges or outright card fraud. No gift card ever arrives, and the harvested contact details tend to fuel further scam calls and messages.

Evidence

On 2026-10-16, five of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, Netcraft and SOCRadar. That is a small share, but it includes established phishing-focused vendors. urlscan.io independently rated the page malicious and recognized Walmart branding on it. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-09-03 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown, about five weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. That short gap fits a disposable domain registered for a single campaign. It resolves to 185.66.141.41 on the KnownSRV Ltd. network, which is registered in Great Britain, while the server itself sits in the Netherlands. Its free Let's Encrypt certificate gives the page a browser padlock, which proves nothing about who runs it.

What to do

If you entered a bank card on this site, call your card issuer right away to block it and dispute any charges, including small fees. Watch your statements for subscriptions you never signed up for. If you shared your phone number or address, expect follow-up scam texts and calls, and never trust anyone who contacts you about the prize. Report the page to Walmart and to your national fraud reporting service. Security teams should block the domain and its IP and warn users that gift cards offered through surveys are a common fraud lure.
