sparrowwallet.co is an impersonation phishing page that copied the identity of Sparrow Wallet, a desktop Bitcoin wallet popular with self-custody and hardware-wallet users. The page presented itself as "Sparrow Bitcoin Wallet - Sparrow Wallet" on a lookalike .co address, aiming at people searching for the genuine project. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-19. The site has been offline since 2026-09-22 and was still dead when last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Fake Sparrow sites rely on the fact that the wallet is installed from a website. A visitor who lands on the cloned page through a search result or ad is offered a "download" or a "restore wallet" step. Pages of this type typically deliver a tampered installer or ask for the seed phrase directly. Either way, the operator gains control of the victim's Bitcoin, and transfers on the Bitcoin network cannot be reversed.
Evidence
On 2026-09-21, seven of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That is a modest count, but it comes from independent vendors. MetaMask's and SEAL's blocklists list it alongside PhishDestroy's own entry. The domain also appears in two AlienVault OTX threat pulses.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2025-12-30 through Hosting Concepts B.V. (Registrar.eu), roughly nine months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests it was registered early and activated later. It ran on Hostinger International Limited infrastructure in Germany with a free Let's Encrypt certificate. The padlock in the browser therefore proved nothing about who ran the site. The page went dark within three days of detection.
What to do
If you downloaded Sparrow from this domain, do not run the file. If you already ran it, treat that computer as compromised. Then move your funds to a new wallet created on a clean device with a fresh seed phrase. If you typed your seed phrase into the site, assume it is stolen and move your funds right away. Get Sparrow only from the project's official site and check the release signatures before installing. Defenders should block the domain, search logs and endpoints for visits or downloads from it, and watch for new Sparrow lookalikes on other domain endings.
