PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

fundrecoveryagent.com poses as a professional crypto recovery service under the page title "funds recovery agent – Trace". It targets people who have already lost money to a crypto scam and are searching for help getting it back. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-25 and classifies it as an impersonation phishing page. The domain is still live, but its DNS was inactive when last checked on 2026-10-19, so the page may not load even though the operation could bring it back.

How the scam works

Recovery scams go after victims a second time. A site like this promises to "trace" stolen funds on the blockchain and return them, and the "Trace" branding in the page title is built to sound like a forensic investigation. Once a victim makes contact, the usual pattern is an upfront charge presented as a service fee, tax, or unlocking cost, often followed by more payments as the "recovery" keeps stalling. These schemes also ask for identity documents, exchange logins, or wallet recovery phrases. Anyone who hands those over can lose whatever funds they still have.

Evidence

On 2026-10-07, 11 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain. The vendors included alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft, Kaspersky and Lionic. That is a minority of engines, but the agreeing vendors are independent, established names. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which means other researchers have tied it to malicious activity. It is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
