PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

cardupnow.com presents itself as "CardUpNow" and advertises a "Prepaid Virtual Card Without Verification." Its audience is people who want a payment card while skipping identity checks. PhishDestroy first saw the domain on 2026-09-16 and added it to our blocklist. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content.

How the scam works

The page offers a card with no identity verification, and that is the main warning sign. Legitimate prepaid card issuers are generally required to run identity checks, so a service that skips them asks you to send money to an operator you cannot hold to account. With unlicensed card resellers of this kind, the usual risks are paying a top-up or issuance fee and receiving nothing, getting a card that is frozen or empty, or handing over personal and payment details to people with no obligation to protect them. We have not confirmed a specific scheme on this domain, but the offer itself carries that risk.

Evidence

Independent detection is limited. On 2026-09-29, 4 of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and SOCRadar. That is a small share, but it comes from four unrelated vendors. The domain also appears in 3 AlienVault OTX pulses, which means other researchers have tagged it in threat-sharing feeds. Among the blocklists we track, only PhishDestroy currently lists it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through NameCheap, Inc. on 2025-03-12, about eighteen months before we detected it. That is longer than the throwaway lifespan typical of short-lived phishing pages and fits a storefront meant to keep running. Traffic passes through Cloudflare, Inc. on an address geolocated to Canada, so the server that actually hosts the site is hidden behind Cloudflare's network. The free Let's Encrypt certificate only shows the connection is encrypted. It says nothing about who runs the site.

What to do

Do not buy or top up a card on cardupnow.com. If you already paid, contact your bank, card issuer or payment provider right away to dispute the charge, and keep receipts and any messages from the operator. Do not send further "activation" or "unlock" payments if you are asked for them. If you entered card numbers or identity documents, watch your statements, consider replacing the card, and treat any follow-up contact claiming to be from CardUpNow as untrusted. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and web proxies and flag it in mail and chat filtering.
