PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

buybtcvps.com is an impersonation phishing page that uses Bitcoin branding to present itself as a hosting provider. It targets people looking for servers they can rent anonymously with cryptocurrency. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-03. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its content.

How the scam works

The page is titled "BuyBTCVPS — Bitcoin & Crypto VPS and Dedicated Servers", so it looks like a hosting storefront. We classify it as Bitcoin impersonation phishing, not as a genuine hosting service. Schemes of this kind use a familiar crypto name and a plausible product to collect sign-up credentials, contact details and up-front cryptocurrency payments. Bitcoin transfers cannot be reversed, so money sent for a server that never materialises, or for follow-up "activation" or "verification" charges, is gone. Logins created on the site can also be tried against other services where the same password is reused.

Evidence

On 2026-10-18, 5 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a small share, which means many browsers and security tools may not warn visitors yet. The domain also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have tracked it independently. PhishDestroy is currently the only blocklist listing it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through NameCheap, Inc. on 2026-07-04, about two months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap is long enough to build a convincing storefront before reports start. The site sits behind Cloudflare, Inc., with the address geolocating to Canada, which hides the actual origin server. Its TLS certificate comes from Google Trust Services, so the browser padlock only shows the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is honest.

What to do

Do not send any further Bitcoin to this site, whatever fee, upgrade or unlock charge it asks for. If you already paid, save the transaction ID, order details and any emails, then report them to PhishDestroy and to the exchange or wallet service you paid from. If you created an account there, change that password wherever you reused it and turn on two-factor authentication for your email and exchange accounts. Defenders should block the domain at DNS and web proxies and check logs for users who visited or submitted forms. Report it to Cloudflare and NameCheap so takedown can proceed.
