Overview

242annonces.com is an impersonation phishing page dressed up as a local classifieds marketplace, titled "242 Annonces – Achetez, vendez, trouvez près de chez vous." Its French-language buy-and-sell pitch targets people looking for bargains or trying to sell goods nearby. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-10, and it was still online and serving content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Fake classifieds sites borrow the look and promise of a trusted listings portal ("buy, sell, find near you") so that visitors treat it like the real thing. Victims are typically asked to create an account, log in, pay for a listing or delivery, or confirm a sale through a supposed secure payment step. Each of those steps hands over something valuable: login credentials, personal contact details, card numbers, or money sent for goods that never arrive. Sellers are a common target too. They may be told a buyer has already paid and that they must enter banking details to receive the funds.

Evidence

On 2026-10-16, 6 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Seclookup, SOCRadar and URLQuery. That is a modest count, so many browsers and security tools may still let it load without a warning. It appears in 34 AlienVault OTX threat pulses, which shows that analysts beyond PhishDestroy are tracking it. On the blocklist side, it is currently listed by PhishDestroy.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-06-23 through HOSTINGER operations, UAB, about three and a half months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap left plenty of time to build the fake storefront before it drew attention. The site runs on Hostinger International Limited's network (AS47583) at 2.57.91.182, geolocated to the US. Its free Let's Encrypt certificate produces the browser padlock, but the padlock only means the connection is encrypted and says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

Do not log in, post listings or pay through 242annonces.com. If you entered a password there, change it at once, along with any other account that uses the same password, and turn on two-factor authentication. If you shared card or bank details or sent a payment, contact your bank right away to block the card and dispute the charge. Ignore any follow-up messages that ask for extra fees to release goods or funds. Defenders should block the domain and its hosting IP, and should watch mail and chat traffic for links that point to it.
