PhishDestroy threat report
www-app-google.com is an impersonation phishing page that copies the look of Google's official Chrome download site. It is written for Chinese-speaking visitors, and the hyphenated domain is built to pass as a legitimate Google address at a glance. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-10-06, and the site was still online and serving content when last checked on 2026-10-19.
The page title translates to "Google Chrome official site – fast browsing, security protection, multi-device sync, the modern browser," which mirrors the wording a real Chrome landing page would use. Fake browser download pages like this usually reach victims through search ads or poisoned results, then offer an installer that is not Google's. Anyone who runs that file risks putting attacker-controlled software on their computer. Software of this kind can steal saved passwords, session cookies and other account access.
On 2026-10-06, VirusTotal showed 15 of 91 engines flagging the domain. That is a meaningful minority, and it includes established vendors such as BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and G-Data, along with Criminal IP, alphaMountain.ai and the Vietnamese anti-scam group Chong Lua Dao. The domain also appears on the Phishunt blocklist alongside PhishDestroy, and one AlienVault OTX threat pulse references it.
The domain was registered on 2026-01-11 through Gname.com Pte. Ltd., roughly nine months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests it was either kept in reserve or operated quietly for a long time. The site sits behind Cloudflare, with an edge address geolocated to Canada, which hides the real origin server. Its TLS certificate comes from Google Trust Services. This only means the connection is encrypted; the padlock says nothing about whether Google runs the site.
If you downloaded an installer from this site, do not run it, and delete it. If you already ran it, run a full scan with reputable security software and remove any unfamiliar programs or browser extensions. Then change your important passwords from a different, clean device, starting with email, banking and any crypto exchange accounts. Turn on app-based two-factor authentication and sign out of active sessions so that stolen cookies stop working. Only install Chrome from Google's own domain. Defenders should block www-app-google.com at DNS and the proxy. They should also search logs for executable downloads from it and isolate any hosts that ran a file obtained there.
