PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

virlex.ng presented itself as "Virlex", a one-stop shop for social media growth, virtual phone numbers, web work and ad services. Its likely audience was small businesses, influencers and anyone shopping for followers or verification numbers. PhishDestroy flagged it on 2026-09-19, the same day the domain was registered, and classifies it as impersonation phishing. The page title describes an ordinary marketing storefront, while our classification is impersonation phishing. The site went offline on 2026-09-21 and was still unreachable when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Impersonation storefronts like this copy the look of a legitimate service so visitors trust it with payment and account details. Growth and virtual-number services are an easy cover because buyers expect to pay upfront and often hand over social media usernames or even login credentials "for delivery". Victims typically lose the money they paid, any card or payment details entered at checkout, and sometimes control of the social media accounts they asked to have boosted.

Evidence

Six of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain by 2026-09-21: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That is a modest count, but it comes from several unrelated vendors within two days of registration. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam, an independent signal from outside the antivirus ecosystem. The domain also appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses. PhishDestroy is the only blocklist carrying it.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through TRUEHOST CLOUD on 2026-09-19 and was detected that same day, which fits a short-lived site set up quickly for a single campaign. It was hosted at 163.61.188.5 on the New Dhaka Hardware network, a Bangladeshi-registered provider, with the server located in the United States. A free Let's Encrypt certificate gave the site a padlock, which proves only that the connection was encrypted, not that the business behind it was real.

What to do

If you paid virlex.ng for followers, numbers or ads, contact your bank or payment provider, report the charge as fraud and watch for further unauthorised transactions. If you shared a social media password, change it immediately, enable two-factor authentication and log out all other sessions. Remove any third-party apps or connections you granted during the order. Defenders should block the domain and 163.61.188.5 and search proxy and DNS logs for visits since 2026-09-19 to identify affected users.
