PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

promonowusa.com is an impersonation phishing page that uses the Target brand to promise visitors a $750 gift card under the banner "Gift Card Finds." It is aimed at US shoppers who see the offer in ads, social posts or spam and believe a major retailer is giving away free credit. PhishDestroy first saw the domain on 2026-10-15. As of 2026-10-19 the site was alive and redirecting visitors onward.

How the scam works

The page title, "Get a $750 Target Gift Card Today | Gift Card Finds," is the hook: a large, retailer-branded reward that seems to need only a few clicks. Fake gift card promotions like this usually walk the victim through a short survey or "eligibility check," then ask for a name, address, email, phone number and sometimes card details to "claim" or "ship" the reward. The gift card never arrives. Victims lose personal data that is resold or used for further phishing, and anyone who enters payment details can face unwanted charges or recurring subscriptions. The redirect lets operators push visitors through a chain of offer pages they control.

Evidence

On 2026-10-19, VirusTotal showed 5 of 92 engines flagging the domain: alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, Netcraft and VIPRE. That is a modest detection count, so many browsers and filters may not yet warn users. The domain sits on the PhishDestroy blocklist and appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-06 through GoDaddy.com, LLC, only nine days before PhishDestroy first saw it. That short gap is typical of throwaway domains spun up for a campaign. It resolves to 185.158.133.1 on the Cloudflare network in the US. Its TLS certificate was issued by Google Trust Services (WE1), so the padlock in the browser says nothing about whether the offer is legitimate.

What to do

If you only opened the page, close it and do not follow any further redirects or offers. If you entered personal details, expect targeted phishing by email, text and phone, and treat any "prize" follow-up as hostile. If you entered card information, contact your bank immediately to dispute charges, cancel the card and check for recurring subscriptions. Target gift card offers should only be trusted when they come from Target's own channels. Defenders should block the domain and its IP at the DNS, proxy and email gateway, hunt for clicks in their logs, and report the site to the registrar and hosting provider for takedown.
