PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

This is a fake Ledger Live page hosted on a free Cloudflare Pages subdomain. Its name strings together "ledgr", "desktop", "live" and "auth" so it reads like an official sign-in or download point for Ledger's companion app, while the misspelling of the brand gives it away. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-08. The site has been offline since 2026-09-16 after the provider blocked its content, and it was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page carried the title "Ledger Live – Secure Crypto Management App" to pass as the real desktop software. Ledger impersonation pages like this one usually tell the visitor that the app needs to be verified, synchronized or restored. They then ask for the 24-word recovery phrase, or push a fake installer that later requests it. Anyone who types that phrase into such a page gives the operators full control of the wallet. They can then empty every account derived from it, and the theft cannot be reversed.

Evidence

On 2026-09-18, VirusTotal showed 14 of 89 engines flagging the site. Those included Kaspersky, ESET, BitDefender, Fortinet, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, CyRadar and alphaMountain.ai, so the detections came from several unrelated vendors rather than a single source. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict, although its brand matching recognized only a generic Cloudflare layout and did not identify Ledger. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, which means wallet users relying on those protections were warned.

Infrastructure

The subdomain was created on 2026-08-16, 23 days before PhishDestroy flagged it, and it went dark about a week after that. It used Cloudflare Pages, so it resolved to Cloudflare's network with a Canadian location and received an automatic certificate from Google Trust Services. Free platform subdomains like this one cost nothing and can be replaced within minutes, so the same operators may reappear under a new name.

What to do

If you entered your Ledger recovery phrase on this site, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up the device again with a new phrase and move any remaining funds to addresses derived from it immediately. If you downloaded software from the page, remove it and scan the computer. Only install Ledger Live from Ledger's official channels, and never type a recovery phrase into any website or app. Defenders should block this subdomain and watch for similar misspelled Ledger names on Pages and other free hosting platforms.
