Its title, "Ledger Start — Securely Begin Your Crypto Journey", copies the onboarding flow new Ledger owners follow when setting up a device. The subdomain itself mimics a Ledger web address, using a free page-hosting service to look official. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-31. The site has been offline since 2026-09-11, the hosting provider has blocked its content, and it was still down when last checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Fake "Ledger Start" pages target people at the moment they unbox a new device, when they expect setup instructions and are most likely to follow prompts without questioning them. Pages of this type typically steer the victim toward typing in their 24-word recovery phrase, or toward downloading a counterfeit Ledger Live app that asks for it. Anyone who hands over that phrase gives the attacker full control of the wallet. The attacker can then empty it from anywhere, and the hardware device offers no protection.
Evidence
On 2026-09-10, 14 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain, including BitDefender, ESET, Fortinet, G-Data, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, alphaMountain.ai, CyRadar and ADMINUSLabs. That is a strong showing from several major security vendors for a short-lived page. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and recognized Ledger branding on the page. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy's own.
Infrastructure
The page was published on Cloudflare Pages, with the subdomain dating to 2025-10-29, about ten months before PhishDestroy detected it. That long gap suggests the project sat unused or quietly live before it drew attention. It was served through Cloudflare's network, with the address geolocating to Canada. Free hosting under a shared developer domain lets operators spin up convincing lookalike names quickly, and the provider eventually took the content down.
What to do
If you typed your recovery phrase into this page or into any app it led you to, treat that wallet as compromised. Set up a new wallet with a fresh phrase on your Ledger and move any remaining funds there immediately. Delete any Ledger Live installer you downloaded from the site, and only get the app from Ledger directly. Remember that Ledger never asks for your recovery phrase on a website or in a form. Security teams should block the domain and watch for similar pages.dev subdomains built from Ledger keywords.
