PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

instanderhub.com is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself as the official download source for Instander, a modified Instagram client for Android. Its page title reads "Instander APK v19.0 Latest Version Download For Android (Official)". It targets Android users looking for the app outside the Play Store. PhishDestroy first flagged the domain on 2026-10-16, and the site was still online and serving content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

Lookalike download hubs borrow the name and branding of a popular modded app and claim to be the official source. This lets them hand visitors an APK file that the real developers never built or checked. A sideloaded package installed from such a site can carry modifications that harvest data or push unwanted software. Instander-style clients also ask for an Instagram login, so a tampered build can capture account credentials and session access. Victims risk losing control of their Instagram account and exposing whatever data the installed app can reach on their phone.

Evidence

VirusTotal showed 0 detections out of 92 engines on 2026-10-16, so no commercial vendor flagged the domain at that time. The classification rests on PhishDestroy's own analysis, and the domain is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist. It also appears in 2 AlienVault OTX threat pulses. The site's TLS certificate was issued by Google Trust Services (WE1), so the padlock icon says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

If you downloaded and installed an APK from this site, uninstall it right away and run a reputable mobile security scan. If you logged into Instagram through that app, change your Instagram password from a trusted device, turn on two-factor authentication, and log out all other active sessions in your account settings. Reuse of that password elsewhere means those accounts need new passwords too. Defenders should block instanderhub.com at DNS and web proxy level and add it to mobile threat-defense policies. They should also watch for sideloaded APK installs on managed Android devices.
