PhishDestroy threat report
coinupa.com is an impersonation phishing page that presents itself as CoinUp, a cryptocurrency exchange. The page title reads simply "CoinUp", and the domain adds one extra letter to the brand name, a typosquat built to catch users who mistype the address or click a lookalike link. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-09-23. As of 2026-10-19 the domain was still live, but it was not resolving to any page content.
Exchange impersonation pages copy the real platform's look so that visitors hand over what the genuine site would ask for. That usually means account email, password and one-time 2FA codes, which attackers replay on the real exchange to drain balances. Some versions also ask the visitor to connect a wallet or send a deposit. The extra "a" in the name is easy to miss on a phone screen, and that is what the trick relies on.
Wallet-security lists back this verdict more strongly than antivirus engines do. MetaMask and SEAL both block the domain alongside PhishDestroy, which means wallet users get a warning before the page loads. VirusTotal coverage is thinner: 5 of 91 engines flagged it as of 2026-10-06 (CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and SOCRadar). A low engine count like this is common for brand-targeted phishing and should not be read as a sign the site is safe. One AlienVault OTX threat pulse also references the domain.
The domain was registered on 2025-11-12 through Gname.com Pte. Ltd., about ten months before PhishDestroy detected it. Long gaps like this often mean a domain was set up early and used later. Traffic runs through Cloudflare, Inc., with the address geolocated to Canada, so the real origin server is hidden. The HTTPS certificate comes from Google Trust Services (WE1), and the padlock it shows says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.
If you entered CoinUp credentials on coinupa.com, change your password on the real exchange right away. Reset your 2FA and review recent logins, withdrawals, API keys and withdrawal address whitelists for anything you did not set up. If you connected a wallet or signed anything there, revoke token approvals with a trusted approval checker and move funds you consider at risk to a fresh wallet. Reach CoinUp only by typing its address yourself or using a saved bookmark. Defenders should block the domain and watch for similar single-letter variants of the brand.
