big5sportlife.com is an impersonation phishing site posing as Big 5 Sporting Goods, the US sporting goods retailer. It targets shoppers searching for discounted sports equipment and apparel. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-10-16. When last checked on 2026-10-19, the site was still online and serving its content.
How the scam works
The page carries the retailer's own tagline, "Shop our selection to get ready to play! | Big 5 Sporting Goods", so a visitor arriving from an ad or search result sees what looks like the real store. urlscan.io flagged it as a fake shop. Sites like this list popular items at prices well below normal to push quick checkouts. Victims typically hand over card numbers, billing addresses, emails and phone numbers, then either receive nothing or receive a cheap substitute. The stolen card details can be reused for further fraud.
Evidence
Six of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-19: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That count is modest, so many browsers and filters may still let the page load without a warning. urlscan.io returned a malicious verdict and identified the site as a fake shop. The domain also appears in two AlienVault OTX pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-08-20 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown, about eight weeks before PhishDestroy detected it. The site runs on an IP address in the network of Malakmadze Web LLC, a Georgia-registered provider, and the address geolocates to the US. Its Let's Encrypt certificate gives the site a browser padlock, which proves only an encrypted connection and says nothing about whether the store is legitimate.
What to do
If you ordered from big5sportlife.com, contact your card issuer right away to dispute the charge and request a replacement card. Watch your statements for unfamiliar transactions. If you created an account with a password you use elsewhere, change it on those other services. Expect follow-up phishing to the email address and phone number you gave, including messages about "order problems" or "refunds". Security teams should block the domain at DNS and web proxies, and add it to brand-abuse monitoring for Big 5 Sporting Goods lookalikes.
