It was still online and serving content on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Fake bullion stores copy a trusted dealer's look and product catalog, then list gold and silver at prices slightly below market to prompt quick orders. Shoppers are often steered toward hard-to-reverse payment methods such as bank transfers or cryptocurrency, and the metal is never shipped. Some operations follow up with invented "insurance," "customs" or "shipping verification" fees before delivery. Victims lose the money they paid and any card or personal details entered at checkout.
Evidence
On 2026-10-02, eight of 91 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, CRDF, ESET, G-Data, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue and Netcraft. That count is modest, but it includes several major security vendors. urlscan.io rated the site malicious and flagged it specifically as a fake shop, which matches our classification. The domain is on the PhishDestroy blocklist and appears in one AlienVault OTX threat pulse.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-08-20 through TuringSign Inc. d/b/a Cosmotown, about six weeks before it was detected. That short gap is typical of storefronts set up to collect orders quickly before they are reported. The site runs on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in Georgia, a location unrelated to the genuine dealer it imitates. It uses a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the browser padlock only means the connection is encrypted, not that the seller is real.
What to do
If you placed an order, contact your bank or card issuer right away to dispute the charge and block the card. Do not pay any additional fees the "shop" requests to release your shipment. If you paid in cryptocurrency, record the transaction details and report them to the exchange you sent from. Change any password you reused when creating an account on the site, and watch for follow-up phishing emails that use your order details. Before buying bullion, check the dealer's exact domain name. Security teams should block the domain and look for lookalike names that combine the APMEX brand with words like "bullion," "gold" or "silver."
