PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

api.mellowprotocol.com is an impersonation phishing page built around the Mellow Protocol name. The "api" prefix makes it look like a technical endpoint of the project, which targets DeFi users and wallet holders who might follow a link expecting official infrastructure. PhishDestroy first flagged it on 2026-08-28, and as of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving content.

How the scam works

Impersonation pages borrow a trusted protocol's name so visitors lower their guard. In crypto scams of this kind, the visitor is usually asked to connect a wallet or sign a transaction that looks routine. That signature can hand the operator spending rights over the victim's tokens. The page currently shows the title "Access Denied", while our classification is impersonation phishing.

Evidence

Six of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain as of 2026-10-12. The flagging vendors are ChainPatrol, BitDefender, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That count is modest, but ChainPatrol focuses specifically on crypto, which makes its detection meaningful. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists alongside PhishDestroy, so independent crypto-security teams reached the same conclusion.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2025-11-24 through DropCatch.com 806 LLC, roughly nine months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap means the name sat ready well ahead of active use. The site runs on Amazon.com, Inc. infrastructure in the United States, an ordinary cloud setup that gives no sign of legitimacy on its own.

What to do

If you connected a wallet or signed anything on this site, revoke token approvals immediately with a reputable approval checker. Move remaining assets to a fresh wallet if you approved unfamiliar contracts. Never enter a seed phrase on any page reached through this domain. Reach Mellow Protocol only through addresses you have verified yourself. Defenders should block the domain and its hosting endpoint at DNS and proxy level, and watch logs for users who visited after 2026-08-28.
