It presented itself as the official source for the Ledger Live desktop app, and its misspelled "dwnlod" subdomain was built to catch people searching for a quick download. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-09-08. The site has been offline since 2026-09-17, and as of 2026-10-19 its content remains blocked by the hosting provider.
How the scam works
The page carried the title "Download Ledger Live® | Official Ledger Wallet App", copying the branding hardware wallet owners expect when they install or reinstall Ledger's companion software. Fake Ledger Live pages generally steal funds in one of two ways. Some serve a tampered installer. Others show a "recovery" or "sync" screen. Both push the victim to type in their 24-word recovery phrase. Anyone holding that phrase can rebuild the wallet on their own device and empty it, so the hardware wallet no longer protects the funds.
Evidence
On 2026-09-18, VirusTotal showed 11 of 89 engines flagging the site. They included Kaspersky, ESET, BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Gridinsoft and alphaMountain.ai. These are independent vendors, and their agreement confirms the phishing classification. urlscan.io rated the page malicious, although its brand match was a generic Cloudflare template rather than Ledger itself. The domain also appears on the MetaMask and SEAL blocklists in addition to PhishDestroy's.
Infrastructure
The site was a subdomain on Cloudflare Pages, a free static-hosting service, created on 2026-08-30. That is nine days before PhishDestroy flagged it and less than three weeks before it went offline. Free subdomains like this cost nothing and can be replaced quickly, which suits short-lived impersonation campaigns. It was served from Cloudflare's network on an address geolocated to Canada. Its certificate from Google Trust Services is the standard one for this platform, so it says nothing about legitimacy.
What to do
If you downloaded anything from this site, uninstall it and get Ledger Live only through Ledger's own official channels. If you typed your recovery phrase anywhere on this page or in its software, treat the wallet as compromised. Set up a new phrase on a reset or new device and move your funds immediately. Ledger never asks for your 24 words online or in its app. Security teams should block the domain and look for other pages.dev subdomains using Ledger download lures.
