How the scam works
Victims usually arrive through a link in an email, chat message or ad that warns of a problem with their account or asks them to verify it. The page shows a generic sign-in form, and anything typed into it, including email addresses, usernames and passwords, goes to the operators rather than to any real service. With those details, attackers can take over the account, reset other services tied to the same email, and reuse the password wherever it was recycled.
