PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

etherscens.io is an impersonation phishing page that copies Etherscan, the best-known block explorer for Ethereum. The domain is a one-letter typosquat of the real name, built to catch people who mistype the address or click a lookalike link. It targets Ethereum users who check transactions, tokens and wallet balances. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-10-15, and it was still online with live content on 2026-10-19.

How the scam works

The page presents itself as "Etherscan — The Ethereum Blockchain Explorer" so visitors believe they are on the trusted explorer. Impersonation sites of this kind exploit that trust. They push visitors to connect a wallet, sign a request, or enter sensitive details such as a recovery phrase or private key, often on the pretext of verifying a transaction or fixing a token issue. Anything typed or signed there goes to the operators, and a leaked recovery phrase or a malicious signature can give them control of the victim's funds.

Evidence

Wallet-security and crypto-focused blocklists back the classification. Besides PhishDestroy, the domain is listed by MetaMask and SEAL. On VirusTotal, 6 of 92 engines flagged it as of 2026-10-18: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft, SOCRadar and VIPRE. That detection rate is still low, so many security products will not yet warn visitors.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered on 2026-10-14 through Cloudflare, Inc, one day before PhishDestroy detected it. It is hosted on the Hetzner Online GmbH network in Finland. The site uses a TLS certificate from Let's Encrypt (YE1), so the browser padlock says nothing about whether the site is legitimate.

What to do

Close the site and reach Etherscan only by typing its correct address or using a saved bookmark. If you entered a recovery phrase or private key, treat that wallet as compromised and move your assets to a new wallet created on a clean device right away. If you connected a wallet or signed anything, check your token approvals with a reputable approval checker and revoke any you do not recognize. Security teams should block etherscens.io at DNS and proxy level, watch for other lookalike spellings of explorer domains, and report the site to its registrar and hosting provider.
