ads-team-openai.com is a phishing site that impersonates Steam and targets players and item traders who can be pushed into signing in on a fake page. The domain name points to an OpenAI ads team, while the content we classified imitates Steam. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-07. The site has been offline since 2026-10-13 and was still down, blocked by its provider, when we checked on 2026-10-19.
How the scam works
Steam impersonation pages copy the Steam sign-in screen and wait for a victim to enter a username, password and Steam Guard code. Those details go straight to the operator, who can take over the account, empty its inventory and lock out the owner. When we last loaded the page, its title read "Deployment Unavailable", which does not match the Steam phishing content we classified. The off-brand domain name means the link probably arrives as a message or advertising pitch rather than through a search for Steam.
Evidence
Seven of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain on 2026-10-07: alphaMountain.ai, BitDefender, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, G-Data, Gridinsoft and Sophos. That is a modest count, but several of these engines feed widely used browser and endpoint filters. Spamhaus lists the domain in its DBL as spam, CryptoFirewall blocks it alongside PhishDestroy, and it appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered through Ultahost, Inc. on 2026-05-25, about four and a half months before we detected it. It sat on Amazon's AS16509 network in the United States at 216.150.16.1. Its Let's Encrypt certificate only shows that the connection was encrypted. The padlock said nothing about who ran the page.
What to do
If you entered Steam credentials on this site, change your Steam password from the official app or client and check your Steam Guard settings. Use Steam's option to deauthorize all other devices and review your trade history and active offers for anything you did not make. If you used the same password elsewhere, change it there too, starting with your email account. Security teams should block the domain at DNS and the proxy and search mail and chat logs for links to it.
