How the scam works
Lookalike "official download" sites for popular AI tools rank for searches like "Hello GPT 官网" or "Hello GPT 下载" and catch people who expect the real vendor. The visitor is then pushed to download an installer, register an account or pay for access through a channel the operator controls. A victim can end up with an unwanted or malicious program on their device, or can hand login details or payment to a party with no connection to the real product. Because the domain now redirects, the final destination can change without the domain itself changing.
Evidence
On 2026-09-12, six of 89 VirusTotal engines marked the domain as malicious or phishing: alphaMountain.ai, Bfore.Ai PreCrime, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Gridinsoft and SOCRadar. That rate is low, so many browsers and security tools will not warn visitors. Several of these vendors specialize in early or predictive detection, which fits a fairly new impersonation domain. The domain appears in four AlienVault OTX threat pulses, so other researchers have independently tracked it, and it is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.
Infrastructure
The domain was registered on 2026-06-09 through Fewmoretaps OU d/b/a Trustname.com, about three months before PhishDestroy caught it. The site sits behind Cloudflare, with the address geolocating to Canada, so the real origin server is hidden from public view. Its TLS certificate comes from Google Trust Services. A valid certificate and padlock mean only that the connection is encrypted. They do not show that the site belongs to Hello GPT.
What to do
If you downloaded anything from hellogptzh.com, do not run it. If you already installed it, uninstall it and run a full scan with a reputable security tool.
