PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

grass.lat imitated Grass, the network that pays users for sharing spare internet bandwidth. It even reused the project's pitch as its page title: "Get rewarded for the internet you don't use." The likely targets were Grass participants and crypto users looking for rewards or token claims. PhishDestroy first flagged the domain on 2026-09-15. It went offline on 2026-09-16, and as of 2026-10-19 its DNS no longer resolves.

How the scam works

Lookalike reward sites copy a real project's branding so visitors believe they are on an official claim or dashboard page. The usual next step is a prompt to connect a crypto wallet and sign a transaction or message presented as a reward claim. In reality, that signature can grant token approvals or transfer assets to the operator. Some variants also ask for account logins or recovery phrases, and anyone who supplies a seed phrase hands over full control of that wallet.

Evidence

Three of 89 VirusTotal engines (alphaMountain.ai, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker and VIPRE) flagged the domain on 2026-09-15. That count is low, which is typical for a page caught within days of going live. The stronger signal comes from crypto-focused blocklists: the domain is listed by MetaMask and SEAL alongside PhishDestroy. MetaMask's listing means its wallet users get a warning before they reach the page.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Global Domain Group LLC on 2026-09-13, just two days before PhishDestroy detected it. It was dead within a day of detection. That short registration-to-takedown window points to a disposable site built for a quick campaign. Traffic ran through Cloudflare, Inc. on an address geolocated to Canada, which keeps the origin server out of view. The site used a free Let's Encrypt certificate, so the padlock in the browser said nothing about who was running it.

What to do

If you connected a wallet to grass.lat, use a token-approval checker to review and revoke any allowances you granted. Then move remaining funds to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not understand. If you typed a recovery phrase, treat that wallet as fully compromised and empty it into a newly generated one immediately. If you entered a password, change it and enable two-factor authentication. Defenders should block grass.lat and watch for similar Grass-themed domains on cheap TLDs registered in quick succession.
