PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

etherconfig.netlify.app is an impersonation phishing page dressed up as a "Decentralized Launchpad," a site where crypto users expect to join early token sales. The "ether" name and the launchpad theme aim at Ethereum holders hunting for new projects. PhishDestroy first saw it on 2026-08-31, and as of 2026-10-19 the site was still alive with its phishing content online.

How the scam works

Fake launchpads work by copying the look of a legitimate token sale portal and urging visitors to connect a wallet to claim an allocation, join a presale or "configure" their wallet, as the subdomain name suggests. The connection prompt is the trap. The victim may be asked to sign an approval or transaction that hands the attacker control of their tokens, or to type a recovery phrase that gives away the whole wallet. Either way, the loss is the crypto in the connected wallet, often moved out within minutes. The page title shows only generic launchpad branding with no specific project named, while we classify the site as impersonation.

Evidence

On 2026-09-14, 15 of 89 VirusTotal engines flagged the page, including BitDefender, Fortinet, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, G-Data, Emsisoft, Gridinsoft, alphaMountain.ai and Criminal IP. That spread of major antivirus and web-filtering vendors means many browsers and security suites already warn or block on visit. ScamSniffer, a wallet-focused scam detector, lists it independently alongside PhishDestroy.

Infrastructure

The site is a free subdomain on Netlify's hosting platform rather than a purchased domain, so it was cheap and fast to set up and easy to replace if taken down. It is served from Amazon network space in Germany. The DigiCert certificate is the platform's standard one, so the padlock in the browser says nothing about who runs the page.

What to do

If you connected a wallet here, review and revoke any token approvals you granted to unfamiliar contracts, and move remaining funds to a fresh wallet if you signed anything you did not fully understand. If you typed your seed phrase, treat that wallet as compromised and transfer whatever is left to a new wallet created with a new phrase straight away. Only join token sales through links on a project's verified official channels. Defenders should block the hostname, report it to Netlify for takedown, and watch for sibling launchpad pages on the same platform.
