PhishDestroy threat report

Overview

berghoffhomedirect.shop is a fake online store that borrows the name and branding of BergHOFF, the European kitchenware and home goods brand. It is built to catch shoppers who search for BergHOFF products and land on what looks like a direct-from-brand outlet. PhishDestroy first detected it on 2026-10-13. As of 2026-10-19 the site was still online and serving its shop pages.

How the scam works

The page carries BergHOFF's own tagline, "Smartly designed. Cherished for life. | BergHOFF Home", so it looks like an official storefront. Shops like this usually list cookware and home items at steep discounts to push quick checkouts. The shopper pays and hands over a name, address, email and card details, then receives nothing, a cheap substitute, or a tracking number that leads nowhere. The losses are the money paid and the card and personal details, which can be reused for further fraud.

Evidence

On 2026-10-17, 8 of 92 VirusTotal engines flagged the domain: alphaMountain.ai, CRDF, Forcepoint ThreatSeeker, Fortinet, Gridinsoft, LevelBlue, Netcraft and SOCRadar. The count is modest, but these vendors are independent of each other and include several that specialise in fraud and phishing. urlscan.io rated the site malicious and specifically marked it as a fake shop. The domain also appears in 4 AlienVault OTX threat pulses and is listed on the PhishDestroy blocklist.

Infrastructure

The domain was registered through Dynadot Inc. on 2026-05-25, about four and a half months before PhishDestroy detected it. That gap suggests it was set up in advance rather than spun up for a single burst of traffic. The site is hosted on the Malakmadze Web LLC network in Georgia, which has no evident connection to BergHOFF's own operations. Its padlock comes from a free Let's Encrypt certificate, which secures the connection but says nothing about whether the seller is real.

What to do

If you ordered from this site, call your card issuer or bank now. Report the charge as fraud, ask for a chargeback, and have the card replaced if you entered its details. Keep your order confirmation and any emails as evidence. Expect follow-up phishing that uses your order details, such as fake delivery or refund messages, and do not pay any extra "shipping" or "customs" fees. Buy BergHOFF products only through the brand's official channels or authorised retailers. Security teams and payment providers should block the domain and report it to the registrar and hosting network for takedown.
